Antique Katana sword in Ornate Mounting
w/ JUYO Touken Important Antique Sword Certificate
by NBTHK (26th Juyo certificate issued in 1979)
Swordsmith: Attribute to Rai-KUNIYASU
NBTHK issued the JUYO (historically significant/important masterpiece antique blade) certificate to this katana in 1979. A very quality Katana sword from SAMURAI STORE Tokyo. Antique Katana with a long blade, made by the swordsmith Rai-KUNIYASU (attributed) in Nambokucho era (around Kakei part, 1380s). Just like many blades from the Nambokucho era, this blade has no inscription on the tang, but NBTHK officially attributes it to Rai-KUNIYASU (the grandchild of Rai-KUNISUE), who is known as the initiator of the Chiyotsuru smith school. This blade was certified as a JUYO paper "Important Antique Sword" by NBTHK (Japan Sword Preservation Society), the 2nd-highest ranking. Many of JUYO's blades are now in the museums.
The blade is well forged, finished with Shinogi-Tsukuri (cleared ridge line), 1.6cm curvature, well-made artistic Nie (misty-white area on edge), and the Hamon tempered line pattern is Hior-Suguha (wide straight pattern) with small clover-flower tree (Ko-Choji), and several leaf-shaped tempered pattern on edge. Bo-hi grooves on the both sides.
Comes in a complete set of stunning antique, ornate mounting, including all metal fittings and an open-work Tsuba hand guard and Kotsuka unility knife, and Kogai. A shirasaya wooded holder also comes with.
The blade comes with a Certificate of NBTHK Japan Sword Preservation Society - JUYO Token Paper (Important Historical Antique blade)

*This number means that the blade is verified and registered as an authentic Japanese sword by the board of education and public safety commission.
